Fall weddings in Columbia, SC, are magical in their own right, but add the charm of Wavering Place, a historic estate with endless natural beauty, and it becomes an unforgettable setting for a photographer. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing Ginny and Andrew’s autumn wedding there, and every detail came together seamlessly against the backdrop of this stunning location.
Wavering Place is one of those rare venues where history and natural beauty blend perfectly. Located just a short drive from downtown Columbia, this estate is a hidden gem with sprawling grounds, old-growth trees, and historic architecture that brings elegance to any celebration. This wedding took place on a gorgeous fall day, with crisp air and sunshine that highlighted the estate’s picturesque charm.
The floral arrangements were thoughtfully curated, featuring an abundance of hydrangeas in soft blue and green hues that complemented the season’s natural palette. Hydrangeas are such a versatile flower; they have a timeless elegance, and when paired with fall’s softer colors, they create a sense of both warmth and tranquility. The arrangements beautifully accented the historic venue and looked breathtaking against the surrounding foliage that had just begun to change color.
From the bride’s bouquet to the table centerpieces, these blooms added an organic touch that was both sophisticated and romantic. The florals really brought a cohesive aesthetic, blending with the venue’s stone walls and wooden beams, and making the ceremony space feel intimate and alive.
As a photographer, it’s always a privilege to capture such meaningful moments, and this day was no exception. The ceremony took place in an open field surrounded by ancient trees, with light filtering through the leaves in a way that felt almost cinematic. Photographing the bride and groom against this backdrop felt like capturing a story that’s both intimate and grand.
During the reception, guests celebrated under a canopy of lights strung across the courtyard. The soft glow, combined with the fall evening air, created an ambiance that was warm, inviting, and full of joy. Some of my favorite shots came during this time—smiling guests, candid laughter, and of course, the couple stealing glances at each other amid the crowd.
Wavering Place is truly a dream for fall weddings. The natural beauty, combined with its historic charm, offers an ideal canvas for couples who want a day that feels timeless and uniquely theirs.
